Our Philosophy

In the fast-paced business of public education, it frequently happens that otherwise intelligent students find themselves falling behind due to the production-line “one size fits all” format of modern classroom teaching systems.

Such a situation can frequently also be the result of the child’s not acquiring certain missed fundamental skills at the proper time, such as math facts and similar foundations in reading, science and social programs.

Progression of the public school class as a whole can leave certain students with a competitive disadvantage in such cases. Your child may have been left behind because of a public school teaching method that was formulated for a generalized, mass-approach for the age group in the class.

Generalized approaches may simply have been the wrong method for teaching your child with his or her unique intellectual make-up.

Individual tutoring is an ideal approach to build the skills foundation and to do other remedial work to bring such students “up to speed” with their classmates.

It is also the best approach for honing the scholastic skills of gifted children so that they can be encouraged to perform at their optimal level for advanced programs.

At Lau Learning, we continue to research the effectiveness, analyze and compare the latest as well as traditional teaching and learning techniques.

Armed with the best tools, we can specifically tailor individual teaching and learning approaches to fit specialized cases.

As we begin to work with each new student, we first apply specialized tests that properly assess the child’s inherent capabilities and determine missing elements for scholarly progress. We then establish a unique program that governs the individual tutoring sessions to build up those missing skills, and to accommodate the unique learning processes of your child.

Our program is based entirely on one-to-one tutoring and individual attention for each student. Progress is measured by a number of means, but the end goal is your child’s significant improvement in Report Card scores at his or her school.     Our grandson was in danger of failing 4th Grade last year, despite the school’s Individualized Education Program set up for him. The public school teachers were simply unable to deal with his attention deficit disorder. Miss Natalie tested him, set up a specially-tailored remedial program, and worked twice a week to bring his math and reading fundamentals up to his class level.
